Dance at a Glance

How your assessments make up your AS level and contribute to your A Level.

UNIT 1 – Understanding Dance

Written Examination (1 hour 30 minutes)

40% of the total AS marks

20% of the total A Level marks

Candidates will be required to answer:

– short structured questions (20 marks)

– two essay questions (40 marks)

The focus will be on the dancer as a performer, the process of choreography and the significance of dances with reference to at least 5 professional dance works studied.

UNIT 2 – Choreography and Performance

Solo Choreography and Performance / Performance in a duo/trio

60% of the total AS marks

30% of the total A Level marks

Solo choreography and performance (60 marks)
Candidates are required to choreograph and perform a solo dance between 2 and 3 minutes long and should provide a brief programme note of not more
than 150 words to indicate the choreographic intention. The choreography will answer a question provided by the examination board.

Performance in a duo/trio (30 marks)
Presentation can be in any dance genre or style and is choreographed by the tutor.
Dance will be between 3 and 4 minutes long.
Candidates are assessed on their own individual performance within the context of a duo/trio which takes technical and performance.

GCSE Block Payments 2013-2014

Lessons to be taken on Wednesday 8-9pm

Please ensure that students wear clothing suitable to dance in and bring A4 lined paper and stationary to each lesson.

Block 1- £65 includes initial admin fee to be paid on or before 5th June

Block 2- £50 to be paid on or before 4th September

Wednesday 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th September

Block 3- £50 to be paid on or before 16th October

Wednesday 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th November

Closed for half term Monday 28th October- Sunday 3rd November

Block 4- £25 to be paid on or before 4th December

Wednesday 4th, 11th, 18th December

Close for Christmas Friday 20th December

Block 5- £50 to be paid on or before 8th January

Wednesday 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th January

Wednesday 5th, 12th February

Close for half term Monday 17th February- Sunday 23rd February

Block 6- £50 to be paid on or before 26th February
